Solar Observing on Thornton Plaza in March & April 2024!

Dear SF State Community,

 

Thanks to the SFSU Observatory's student docents and volunteers, solar telescopes and other special equipment for safe viewing of the Sun will be available this coming week and after spring break when skies are clear.

WHERE:    plaza in front of Thornton hall

DAYS/TIMES:

       Mondays:     12:30 pm - 1:30 pm  

       Tuesdays:     11:00 am - 12:00 pm 

       Thursdays:   12:30 pm - 1:30 pm 

DATES:

       March 18 - 21  and  April 2 - 22

 

SPECIAL EVENT:  On Monday, April 8 there will be an eclipse of the Sun!

Beginning around 10:15 am, the Moon will spend a leisurely 2 hours crossing in front of the Sun.  Maximum eclipse, when the Moon will cover about 1/3 of the Sun as viewed from San Francisco, will occur at about 11:15 am.

Come check it out and bring a friend!   Please help spread the word.
