Observatory Docent Organizational Meeting
Overview
Greetings!
A meeting of experienced and prospective observatory docents will take place on
Friday this week to plan for Observatory Open Nights this spring. It should be a
fun semester with Saturn still visible in February, Venus making an appearance
in April, and Jupiter visible all semester.
When: 5:15 pm, Friday, January 30
Where: Zoom link; (email Prof. Cool for passcode)
If you already have experience with the SFSU telescopes and/or have taken ASTR 301
and can commit to being in the Observatory one evening per week on a regular basis,
you can receive a unit of credit for your role as an Observatory docent.
If you don't yet know how to run the telescopes, but would like to learn and have
taken at least an introductory astronomy course (e.g., ASTR 115), join us to find
out about opportunities to apprentice to one of the experienced observers. We
welcome apprentices!
Interested? Please fill out this google sheet by noon on Friday.
We will use this information to determine which nights we can open this semester.
My hope is that we will have at least two open nights per week and possibly more.
Open nights typically begin at 6:30 pm or 7:00 pm and end at 9:00 pm or 9:30 pm.
More details of the role and responsibilities associated with being a docent will
be discussed at the meeting.
If you can't make this meeting but would like to help out, please email me and
don't forget to fill out the google sheet above.
Thanks!
